This is my version of the SRV #1 guitar but the price is around £1,000 cheaper than the Fender version.
This guitar started with a good Squier body & neck although the neck isn’t the same profile as SRV’s.
However, I added the immitation cigarette burns and a ’70’s style decal but to confirm this isn’t a Fender, I’ve added my decal to the rear of the headstock.
After relicing the body and neck, I routered the body to take the leftie trem and plugged the other end of the cavity with a piece of ash.
I’ve installed the following new parts to the guitar:
Gold Fender tuners
Gold jackplate and new jack
Gold Leftie tremelo with aged cream tip
CTS pots with aged cream knobs
5-way switch with aged cream tip
Black single ply pickguard
SRV and Custom decals with the dog ear on the Custom decal as per the original
Gold strap buttons
Finally I installed a set of my Maurice Johnston hand-wound El Paso pickups that I customised to get as close as possible the ’59’s tone of the original.
These pickups were wound with 42 gauge enamelled wire, the bridge to 6.5kohms and the other 2 to 6.0kohms.
Instead of AlNiCo V polepieces, i used AlNiCo II polepieces to give a more vintage tone.
Overall, the guitar looks great and sounds awesome.
A real bargain for this price.
