I’m afraid I’ve neglected the website for a while now so, just to get started again, here are some recent guitar repair jobs that have been completed over the past couple of weeks (in addition to the normal routine setups on Strat, Les Pauls etc)
This is a Blueridge acoustic/electric that came in with the jack socket hanging out and no output from the electrics.
The big problem was the hot wire had come detatched from the jack socket so a straighforward fix. The back nut on the jack had also worked loose so that had to be set and then the jack replaced in the heal of the guitar. A touch of clear lacquer on the nuts and the strap button keeps them in place and prevents them from working loose
This Martin acoustic came in to have the action lowered because the customer couldn’t play bar chords on it.
The guitar is 2 years old and it looked as though it had never been set up before the customer bought it.
The action was 3.5mm at the 12th fret. There was a bit of scope to adjust the truss rod, which I did.
I was able to get the action down to 2.5mm with no frtet buzz.
Next was a PRS whose machineheads the owner wanted replaced with locking machineheads.
Straightforward job plus a setup and new strings.
The owner of this Robert Cray Strat wanted the 5 way switch replaced with a 3 way switch, each of the 3 switch positions operating one of the 3 pickups: Bridge only, Middle only and Neck only.
The 2 tones were wired to make Tone 1 operate Neck and Middle and Tone 2 operate Bridge.
The customer also wanted all existing plastic wiring replaced with push-back vintage style braided wire.
Since I normally like neck and/or middle on a Strat, this wiring would suit me well.
Nick pickups in this one.
